Indoor volleyball
History of Henrique C. - Viseu, Portugal
Indoor volleyball is a collective sport that was created in 1895 by the American William G. Morgan. Morgan was a physical education teacher and was looking for a sport less violent than basketball, which had been invented about four years earlier.Initially, the game was called "Mintonette" and had very different rules than today. The net was placed at a height of 1.98 m for men and 1.83 m for women, and each team had nine players. The objective was to pass the ball over the net, without it falling on the opponent's field. In 1900, the name of the sport was changed to "volleyball" and new rules were established, such as reducing the number of players per team to six and the height of the net to 2.43 m for men and 2.24 m for women. Indoor volleyball became an Olympic sport at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Since then, the sport has grown in popularity around the world , being practiced in several countries and international competitions... Did you know?
